They are joined by residents and farmers of towns on the Sonora River, who were devastated by a release of 40,000 cubic meters of acid and heavy metal waste in August 2004.  They are demanding the government intervene to force the mine owner, Grupo Mexico, to clean up the river and return the striking miners to their jobs.
