Falfurrias, Texas - A deputy sheriff and a state trooper look on while a passing motorist treats an injured man after a van holding 26 undocumented immigrants from Central America overturned on Texas Highway 285. The driver had picked up the migrants just down the road after they had completed a several-day walk to get around a Border Patrol checkpoint. Overloaded and unstable, the van crashed as it drove away at high speed. Two seriously-injured men remained at the scene. The others ran off, pursued by Border Patrol officers. © Jim West/reportdigital.co.uk

Macdoel, California: Migrant Mexican farmworkers pick the flowers, fruit and runners off strawberry plants in a field belonging to Lassen Canyon Nursery. Workers lie on padded benches in a machine pulled by a tractor, so that they are very close to the plants and can accurately pick off the flowers and fruit. The work requires skill, and many workers are older and have been doing this for many years. They work for the grower for six or seven months and then leave to find work elsewhere. © David Bacon/reportdigital.co.uk
