Falfurrias, Texas - A deputy sheriff and a state trooper look on while a passing motorist treats an injured man after a van holding 26 undocumented immigrants from Central America overturned on Texas Highway 285. The driver had picked up the migrants just down the road after they had completed a several-day walk to get around a Border Patrol checkpoint. Overloaded and unstable, the van crashed as it drove away at high speed. Two seriously-injured men remained at the scene. Workers lie on padded benches in a machine pulled by a tractor, so that they are very close to the plants and can accurately pick off the flowers and fruit.  The work requires skill, and many workers are older and have been doing this for many years. Falfurrias, Texas - A deputy sheriff and a state trooper look on while a passing motorist treats an injured man after a van holding 26 undocumented immigrants from Central America overturned on Texas Highway 285. The driver had picked up the migrants just down the road after they had completed a several-day walk to get around a Border Patrol checkpoint. Overloaded and unstable, the van crashed as it drove away at high speed. Two seriously-injured men remained at the scene. Workers lie on padded benches in a machine pulled by a tractor, so that they are very close to the plants and can accurately pick off the flowers and fruit.  The work requires skill, and many workers are older and have been doing this for many years.
