Striking Teachers Send Santa Message to Academy Sponsor Ark

Striking teachers from Copeland School of Wembley in North London dress in Santa suits and protest against the school being forcibly turned into an academy. Copeland faced being turned into an academy by charity Ark. Ark is run by the Conservative party national treasurer Stanley Fink. The protest was held outside the Ark Brent Academy. Brent Academy was the site of the longest campaign against an academy school between 2004 and 2008. The soundbite is from ATL Secretary Hank Roberts. He led the campaign in Brent against the Ark Academy.

London Cyclists Protest Road Deaths

Several thousand cyclists perform a mass die in outside Transport For London offices in Southwark. The protest was to raise issue with the recent spate of cyclist deaths and to call for better and safer cycle paths in the capital.

Occupy Thatcher Constituency Office

Squating activists occupy the front entrance to the Conservative Constituency Office in Finchely of former leader Margaret Thatcher. The office is now run by Mike Freer. He is one of the architects of the act that criminalised squatting. The Occupy protestors called for Mr Freer to hug the homeless and spend a night sleeping on the streets.

Page Hall Roma Community

Daylight scenes from the Page Hall community in Sheffield where English and Asian residents claim tensions with the Roma community are at breaking point. The footage shows two Asian lads verbally abuse a young Roma boy playing football in the street. Some residents have set up evening patrols to gather evidence on Roma people and report back to the police. The most common complaint by residents is children playing football in the streets. The area is currently under a 9pm curfew and children under 18 are moved on by the police.

Page Hall Residents Patrol

The Page Hall English and Asian residents patrol in Sheffield walk the streets at night to gather evidence of anti social behaviour. Some residents claim tensions with the Roma community are at breaking point. The most common complaint by residents is children playing football in the streets.
